In Memory of Donald Sobol: What Was Your Favorite Clue That Solved The Case?

Encyclopedia Brown, Boy DetectiveWhat was your favorite clue that you remember from Encyclopedia Brown?

Encyclopedia Brown author Donald J. Sobol has passed away this week at the age of 87 years.
During the 70′s I spent hours upon hours reading Encyclopedia Brown books. Not only did he produce longer mystery books featuring Encyclopedia Brown, but I was always a fan of the Two-Minute Mysteries series. He always seemed to be able to solve the case with a simple clue that was right before your eyes. Listed below are some that I can remember.
  • The suspect was lying because he stated he saw a squirrel back down a tree (they go forward and never backward)
  • Who was cheating in class? The single word clues were palindromes. Only one student had a name that was a palindrome.
  • The suspect was lying because he stated he saw a group of soldiers marching in unison over a bridge. They would never do this because the resulting vibration could cause the bridge to collapse. Is this true?
What was your favorite clue or mystery that Encyclopedia Brown solved?
