Social Media Visits by Site in January

Social Media. Almost everybody uses one social media site and many use multiple services. The service we use depends greatly on what we are trying to get out of the social media service. Is is being used to keep up with friends and families? Looking for work and networking? Marketing a product? Highlighting a hobby or special interest?
Listed below are the average minutes per visitor for social media visits by site in January of 2012.
  • Facebook – 405 minutes/month/visitor
  • tumblr. – 89 minutes/month/visitor
  • Pinterest – 89 minutes/month/visitor
  • twitter – 21 minutes/month/visitor
  • Linkedin – 17 minutes/month/visitor
  • myspace – 8 minutes/month/visitor
  • Google+ - 3 minutes/month/visitor
No shock that the gorilla is still Facebook and continues to suck up hours of time.
Pinterest is a much newer website that has had a huge jump in visitors in the past couple of months. It is by invitation, but you can go to the site and request an invite. It will usually take only a couple of days.
Twitter is only at 21 minutes a month, but provides a different type of service that Facebook. Twitter was heavily used during the Oscars and users followed the tweets of the stars at the show along with their reaction. A twitter stream on your web-TV while watching the Oscars greatly enhanced the viewing pleasure.
A lot of people jumped onto the Google+ bandwagon (myself included), but it has turned into a virtual ghost town. I can’t remember the last time I actually logged onto Google+, even though I use other Google services for many other parts of my businesses.
The one service that I am not familiar at all with is tumblr. Maybe someday in some of my free time (ha-ha) I will take the time to explore tumblr. Obviously many people are using the service.
So what service do you use for pleasure? Work? Business? Do you have any idea who the main users are of tumblr? Please let me know.
